Sleutelcompetentie: historisch bewustzijn
In deze sleutelcompetentie is historische fenomenen situeren in een historisch referentiekader een belangrijke bouwsteen. Leerlingen moeten in staat zijn om historische fenomenen, bronnen en beeldvorming te situeren in tijd, ruimte en in brede maatschappelijke (= politieke, sociale, culturele en economische) domeinen, de drie dimensies van een inhoudelijk historisch referentiekader.
Daarin onderscheiden de leerlingen kenmerken van samenlevingen binnen de bestudeerde historische periodes van het courante westerse historische referentiekader en identificeren ze scharnierpunten die de overgang tussen periodes markeren.
Primaire en secundaire bronnen
Kritisch reflecteren met en over historische bronnen is een volgende bouwsteen. Leerlingen moeten in staat zijn historische informatie in bronnen te onderscheiden en te duiden (= kritisch reflecteren met bronnen). Daarbij moeten zowel primaire als secundaire bronnen altijd kritisch worden geanalyseerd en naar waarde geschat.
In het licht van een specifieke historische vraag moeten leerlingen in staat zijn bronnen te selecteren en de bruikbaarheid, waarde, representativiteit en betrouwbaarheid van een bron te evalueren (= kritisch reflecteren over bronnen). Zo zien leerlingen in dat bronnen nooit neutraal, volledig en objectief kunnen zijn. Tegelijk leren ze waardevolle van onbetrouwbare bronnen onderscheiden.
Historische beeldvorming
In deze sleutelcompetentie is het ook de bedoeling om tot beargumenteerde historische beeldvorming te komen vanuit verschillende perspectieven. Vanuit een historische vraag en kritische bronnenanalyse leren de leerlingen bestaande historische beeldvorming kritisch deconstrueren. Door het zelf in acht nemen van meerdere perspectieven kunnen ze zo een beargumenteerd antwoord op een historische vraag formuleren en historische beeldvorming creëren.
Zo bouwen ze kennis op en breiden ze hun historische referentiekader uit. Leerlingen leren ook reflecteren over de complexe relatie tussen verleden, heden en toekomst en die duiden. Via kritische bronnenstudie zien leerlingen in dat verleden en geschiedenis geen synoniemen zijn, dat het verleden zelf en het beeld van dat verleden nooit hetzelfde kunnen zijn.
Geschiedenis
We kunnen het verleden niet rechtstreeks meer kennen, maar enkel tot een beeld ervan komen via de studie van overblijfselen en bronnen. Leerlingen begrijpen zo dat geschiedenis een constructie is, gebaseerd op de interpretatie van bronnen. Zo kunnen er meerdere visies op eenzelfde historische gebeurtenis naast elkaar bestaan, voor zover het gaat om beargumenteerde historische beeldvorming.
