SAM app: Digital step-by-step plans for students with special educational needs

SAM is an application that provides digital step-by-step plans for students with special educational needs. The teacher is central here and selects assignments (linked to the corresponding objectives) tailored to each student. SAM thus offers the opportunity to work on different tasks/learning objectives in a structured way within the same class group. In this way, each student can continue assignments at their own pace with the help of SAM. The tool stores this data and gives teachers an overview of the objectives and assignments that have already been achieved or completed, how long it took the student and at what time. This data then goes with the student regardless of his choice of study or transfer to another school. This application thus enables better monitoring and evaluation.

Initially, the SAM app wants to focus on cooking lessons within special secondary education, to bring peace to the class group and to create more learning time where there is room for differentiation. In time, SAM also wants to be used across disciplines. Not only within Flemish education, but everywhere where step-by-step plans can mean added value (eg within the horticultural sector). SAM wants to give everyone the opportunity to develop and/or apply their own talents, both at school and in the workplace.

The SAM-APP is a Smart Education @ Schools project carried out by the Maria Assumpta institute and the MOZA-ik with the support of the Flemish Government and imec.
