Human life processes: Course

  • Are you interested in how your body functions?
  • Do you want to know how digestion works or how breathing works?
  • Do you ever wonder why we see, hear and feel things?
  • Do you want to know how your blood pressure is regulated and what happens during blood clotting?

Then this course is definitely for you.

The course consists of eight lesson packages:

  • The first lesson package focuses on the composition of living things. In order to properly understand the rest of the course, you need to know how plants, humans and animals are chemically composed and what the function of the different components is.
  • Digestion is discussed in the second lesson package. We need food to stay alive and to ensure the proper functioning of the body. Everything we eat consists of a number of nutrients, each of which has its own function. These nutrients must be broken down into small particles that are able to enter the bloodstream for transport to our cells. In this lesson package you will learn how and where digestion takes place and the main digestive disorders are also discussed.
  • In the third lesson package, the structure of the lungs and breathing movements are explained and the adverse effects of smoking are also discussed.
  • In the fourth lesson package we study the composition and functions of the blood, the structure and functioning of the heart and blood vessels, the course of blood clotting, the ABO blood group system, diseases of the heart and blood vessels, etc. Also the importance of the lymphatic system and the lymph nodes are supplied.
  • You will find out what the excretory organs are, how they work and how to keep them healthy in the fifth lesson package.
  • In the sixth lesson package, the structure, functioning and possible deviations of each sense (the eye, the ear, the sense of smell, the sense of taste and the skin) are discussed.
  • In lesson package seven, the construction and functioning of nerve cells is discussed, the construction and functioning of the central and peripheral nervous system is studied, as well as the difference between a reflex and a conscious action.
  • The last lesson package is about the endocrine or hormonal system. The hormonal system is not only responsible for the development of sexual characteristics, reproduction and growth, but also for regulating body temperature, water content and glucose levels in the blood. In addition to the structure and functioning of the reproductive organs in humans and the hormonal function of reproduction, this lesson package also discusses the most important hormonal glands (such as the pituitary gland, the thyroid gland, the thymus, the pancreas and the adrenal glands) and their functioning.
